Scavenger Hunt Sunday...

...slightly delayed this week!

Things have been pretty busy around here but I've still been snapping away. Here are this week's Scavenger Hunt Sunday interpretations - do please head over to Ashley Sisk's Ramblings and Photos to see the other wonderful entries.

Here goes...

1. Meet me on the corner  platform

Last weekend B was driving a diesel engine down the West Somerset Heritage Railway. I spent the day driving up and down the railway route, stopping to meet him at different stations and snapping pictures of his experience. It was a gloriously sunny day and so much fun.

2. Mother Nature meets technology

Yesterday we visited Bristol Zoo and I spent quite a while in the butterfly house, utterly captivated by the beautiful exotic butterflies. These 'pads' had been set up with brightly coloured circles and - I assume - spots of nectar, to attract the butterflies. 

3. One step at a time

While we were at the zoo, our friends' daughter very bravely walked the 'sky walk' - here she is near the beginning taking it one step at a time. 

4. What's wrong with this picture?

Perhaps 'wrong' is the wrong word - 'What is out of place in this picture?' would be a better question. Can you spot the light fixture 'in' the table - clearly an impossible placement. The photo was taken reflected in a piece of artwork which was made up of variously angled mirrored tiles - the effect was quite surreal, almost like a double-exposure. 

5. Standing tall

This is the lighthouse at Watchet Harbour, along the West Somerset Railway route. B and I have spent several days here now and have some really happy memories of this place. I love how proud and clear the lighthouse stands on the end of the pier.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

A little delayed this week - with the bank holiday weekend here in the UK, I've been out and about. Please do pop over to Ashley Sisk's page, where she hosts the Scavenger Hunt Sunday, and check out some of the other links.

1. Shadow

In the sunshine earlier this week, the lambs were casting clear shadows. They're getting big so quickly.

2. Keys

This one is from my archive as I didn't have chance to get a shot of keys this week. It was taken with my Lomography Spinner camera, which takes full 360 degree panoramas. This was in New York last year and the link is the street performer's piano keys. 

3. Smile

A lovely smile from a lovely little boy. 

4. SOOC

The scanned negatives from one of my analogue cameras - these were taken on a recent trip to Amsterdam and I just got the film developed. I scanned them in to digitise. 

5. Fish

Finally, my lovely other half eating fish and chips by the seaside.

1. Clouds

We've had pretty beautiful weather this past week so I didn't have much chance to capture 'clouds'. This is one from my archive - taken about a month ago. There's no filter on this shot - in fact, aside from a crop its entirely unedited. The light was really that beautiful colour. 

2. Sun flare

A chance capture as I was walking home from the allotment this afternoon. 

3. Seven

The lambs were born in the field across the road from our house last week. Here is number 7!

4. High-angle

I'm sure I take far too many pictures like this, but I just can't resist. I find flowers and their natural shapes and details so interesting. This one is taken from directly above, so a high-angle in relation to the flower.

5. Low-angle

More lambs - cos they're just so cute and they won't stay this tiny for long, so I'm getting lots of photos in!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

With several busy weekends and being right in the middle of a hectic school term, I've not made the time to do this for the past couple of weeks. Shame on me. Particularly as it is such fun! Here are mine...

1. Vintage

I found this vintage Kodak Brownie last weekend in a junk shop. This model is from the 1950s and I love it - hoping to run a test film through soon.

2. Word

We went to a fantastic wedding down in Cornwall yesterday and had a wonderful time celebrating with good friends. I loved the little details, like these hand-drawn place settings. So beautiful

3. Nature's Own

This one needs little explanation. Blossom is everywhere here at the moment. I'm a bit addicted to snapping it!

4. People

Another from the wedding - I love capturing people and their emotions; everyone looks so happy here, watching the bride and groom cut the cake.

5. Photographer's Choice

My interpretation of this very 'open' prompt was to show you my choice of camera and lens. I'm a Nikon user and the lens I currently get the most use out of is a f.1.8 50mm portrait lens. A lot of people disregard these fixed lenses in favour of a zoom lens, but I have no problem moving my feet!

58. Portrait

Okay, so not one shot today, but after having so much fun doing a portrait and product shoot with my very photogenic friend Anna, I really couldn't choose. Anna is a local craft artist and fellow teacher, who is taking brave steps towards making a living from the creative pursuits she loves. Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Here we are again! This week has flown by and as I've been back at work, I've barely had time to photograph anything, so my Scavenger Hunt has been something of a last minute scramble! I hope you enjoy my interpretations of this week's prompts. 

1. Crossed

It's that time of year again - hot-crossed buns galore! I like mine toasted, sometimes with a cheeky slice of cheddar cheese. How about you?

2. A Glimpse

My friend's son, peeking out from behind his warm layers.

3. Handwritten

I still love writing letters (and receiving them of course!) - so much more personal than email.

4. Bliss

Okay, so this one is from my archive. As it was a very busy first week back at school after the half-term holidays, I wasn't feeling particularly blissful. This is a shot of my mum's cat Cleo, looking pretty blissed out on the lawn in summer. Sadly she's no longer with us, but I have this photo on my pinboard and it always makes me smile. 

5. Grey

One from earlier in the week...Castle Combe, just down the road from us, on a pretty grey and wet day. Still utterly beautiful, in spite of the dull weather.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Here we go with week number two! This week I was more organised, having already got one under my belt, and I took the time throughout the week to focus on the prompts. I hope you like my interpretations...


1. Love

This is my friend Steph and her little man, who wasn't feeling very well when they came to visit this week. All he wanted was cuddles from his Mummy. 

2. Duplicated

These matryoshka (Russian dolls) sit atop my bookcase, all tucked up inside the large one. In fact, I don't think I've had them out since I first brought them back from my travels to Siberia, almost 5 years ago. When I saw this prompt, it was the perfect excuse to line all fifteen (yes, fifteen!) duplicates out in a row again.

3. Trend or trending

I was unsure about how best to interpret this prompt, but in the end this photograph seemed the right choice on two levels. The first was that I have seen, in the past week, two separate examples of this type of shot being showcased - so it seems to be 'trending' itself. The second is that Valentine's Day was trending all over the internet this week, and the 'love heart' shadow symbolises that.

4. Paper

Paper birds hanging in the trees for the 'Birds' Wedding Day' this week. 

5. Plastic

At first glance I didn't even notice that this 'leaf' was plastic! Look closely and you can see the actual leaf  has been preserved inside a laminated plastic encasement.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

This is the first time I've taken part in Ashley Sisk's Scavenger Hunt Sunday, although I've been a follower of her blog and admirer of her photography for some time now. 

Here goes...

1. Facial Feature

The adorable nose of the adorable puppy we met last Sunday.

2. Shadow

I really struggled with this theme as we've had lots of snow and not much sun this week, so shadows weren't really in abundance! This shot is from my archive - the high contrast lighting has left a very clear shadow behind the groom.

3. Spicy

My mum grows chilli plants over summer so I stock a bag of them in my freezer to keep using through winter. Even though these ones are tiny they are really spicy!

4. Gold

I don't wear yellow gold, but this was a gift from my good friend Jodie as thanks for being her bridesmaid last year, so it will always be treasured.

5. Fabric

When I visited Lacock Abbey on Friday, the cloisters had been decorated with an array of these round pompoms - in a range of sizes and colours, all made from different fabrics and materials. I thought they were charming.
